Sallie Ottavino Elkordy

Sallie O. Elkordy, while a long-time activist, is a relative newcomer to the anti-vaccine ranks.

As of 2013, she and her sisters were the principals in a New York based stone-working company started by her grandfather, Adamo Ottavino, in 1913. The Managing Partner is her husband,  Muhamed Elkordy.

According to her family company's website,
"Sallie Ottavino Elkordy holds a Master of Architecture degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University.  Also known as "Sillie Sallie", she is the founder/director of the Museum of Comedy, a non-profit organization serving hospitals and homeless shelters throughout NYC.  Mrs. Elkordy has produced over 900 comedy shows on her "Mission of Cheer" since 1993. 
Somewhere along the way Ms. Elkordy began believing in a number of highly implausible conspiracy theories, such as "chemtrails" and a secret masterplan to "geoengineer" the world. 

In 2011, Ms. Elkordy ran as an independent write-in candidate  for the 9th New York Congressional District in Brooklyn and Queens. The campaign did not succeed.

In 2012, Ms. Elkordy launched the "Billion Toddler March for Survival" and a campaign to ban vaccines in New York, claiming

Hi everyone, vaccines are injuring and killing our children.  I am beyond concerned with the current vaccine schedule because 49 vaccines are being recommended up to age six. Consider that one shot to an infant is the equivalent of 30 to an adult on the same day and you will get the full impacto f the threat that vaccines pose to our children. VACCINE VICTIMS MEMORIAL on the National Mall in Washington, DC

Our Government has been coerced into believing that Vaccines are beneficial, although there is a preponderance of evidence to the contrary. Children, above all others, have been targeted to receive these inoculations and we must stop further vaccine related injuries and death by raising awareness in honoring these children. October is International Vaccine Injury Awareness Month, so let's try to have our own National Memorial to Vaccine Victims installed by October of next year (2012). A design competition will commence in October 2011 and parents of vaccine injured children and architects will evaluate the designs to choose a suitable Memorial to all the children. The idea of a Memorial to Vaccine Victims was inspired by http://www.NVIC.org.  International Vaccine Injury Awareness Month was created with http://TruthAboutGardasil.org .
Thanks to Congress for taking action to raise awareness about Vaccine Injury as a preventative measure, by proposing and passing legislation which will permit the construction of this memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC..

To summarize, I think we can safely say a person or organization is anti-vaccine if he or she exhibits at least three of the following points.
  1. Claiming that all vaccines are unsafe and ineffective Yes
  2. Claiming better sanitation and nutrition account for the 20th century decline in vaccine-preventable diseases Unknown
  3. Claiming that vaccines cause diseases and conditions such as autism, asthma, SIDS, or shaken baby syndrome Yes
  4. Claiming that anecdotal evidence is superior to scientific evidence; rejecting science and epidemiology Yes
  5. Cherry picking and misrepresenting the evidence Yes
  6. Using  logical fallacies without shame in arguing Yes
  7. Conspiracy mongering Yes
  8. Silencing criticism (especially by deleting onlin material), rather than responding to it Unknown

 Summary: 
Elkordy would be a trivial figure in the anti-vaccine movement if it weren't for how well-funded she is.  She amplifies other second-tier figures (who we will discuss later) such as Rebecca Carley, "Madame Ghis" (formerly Ghislaine Lanctôt) and others.
